[linux-dvb] trouble tuning to any transponder

I have been working with a Hauppauge card for the last few days (marked rev
2.1). I have yet to get it to tune to and decode a carrier.

I am on kernel 2.4.13 on Redhat 7.1 Using Nov 1 CVS of driver and .97 VDR.

For what it is worth, I have been able to get 10-12 db signal strength
(reported by windows software) but never able to get the software to decode
video. It will tell me that FEC and fsync are happy, and give me a nice
quality bar etc... I think my problem here was that I was never able to
input the proper pid and program information to the channel file for the
windows software. I am looking at T5 Vertical (long story) and none of the
channel configurations in the files are for T5. This isn't a big deal since
I want to be in linux anyway -- and don't really want to invest a lot of
time getting things set up in windows. I am able to use the windows software
to measure signal level at a set frequency, but nothing else.

I about pulled my hair out trying to manually enter the program information
in a file to use with the various windows softwares, but because of buggy
software etc, was never able to. I tried to use the Hauppauge software to
scan the transponders and detect the information, but it never would. It
would lock on to a carrier, and look like it was looking for PID PMT etc,
but never do anything. Because of this behaviour (detecting a carrier, but
unable to extract System Info) I was wondering a few days ago about spectral
inversion. I don't know how that software was supposed to work though, so
maybe I missunderstood something.

All that to say, I have been able to see signal strength, but nothing else.

Since I have seen signal strength in windows I assume two things:

1) My LNB offset is what I thought it was. I am in the US using a non-DisEq
Universal LNB. I have been setting the LnbFrequ to 10750 since this is what
the FTA set top box I have is using. I have set the LnbSLOF to 14000 or
something just to make sure that it isn't trying to switch in the middle of
the transponders. If I don't understand this correctly, please straighten me
out. AND all else being equal, I should be looking at the same carrier
when using the 10750 offset for the VDR config as I was when I was in
windows (10-12 db).

2) I assume my card is ok -- no major hardware defects, cabling problems to
the antenna, that kind of thing...

In VDR where I AM able to set the pid/program information, I still am not
able to tune and decode a carrier. The message I get is: ERROR: channel 2
not synced on DVB card 1! This happens again and again regardless of any
channel settings I try.

Trying to get down to the least number of variables, I have tried to use
dtv_scan to see what I can see. using the command:

dtv_scan -v 8

I get this output:

There are no errors in the kernel messages from dtv_scan.

Since I have not set the LNB offset in any of the DTV files, is the default
set somewhere that I need to change? I entered a few known carriers in for
testing and hope that the offset was 10750.

Is there any other way I can test my card to see if it is actually sensing
carrier?

I have not seen anything to suggest that the driver modules have not loaded
correctly. Everything seems to be working with VDR and kvdr and the osd etc,
I just can't get it to tune any carriers. Also, I think I'm stuck in PAL,
but that can wait until I actually have something to look at.

Any words of advice, or some other method to test this thing?

Thanks!
