[linux-dvb] lockups while watching TV

Hi folks,

I am using the DVB driver for some time now and still have the same
problem that my computer locks up after some time.

I normally load the modules, switch to some channel and watch a film
for some time (sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes 2 hours or more) then
my computer locks up part after part. If I am lucky it does not affekt
the video and audio and I just see the clock stopping to work. If I
move the mouse the window manager is still able to change the fokus,
but if I press any key in one of the windows the mouse freezes and
nothing eles is working. Sometimes the video freezes before I do
anything with the keyboard or the mouse.

I don't know where to look for this problem. It seems that some
process does not release some lock and that one process after another
gets into a wait.

I was using different kernels (2.4.7 and 2.4.13), different versions
of the DVB driver (20010808, 20010914, 20010921, 20010930, 20011028
and 20011030) and vdr versions 0.95 and 0.97 together with tuxview or
xawtv. With all combinations I testet the same problem occured. I am
also using the lirc feature in dvb.c which I initially wrote. Since I
am not completely shure that this part is bugfree I'll try to
reproduce the problem withour lirc support.

If someone has a hint where to look for the problem please let me
know. I did not see anybody mention a simmilar problem on the list
although some are using the lirc feature.

Christoph
