In short, yes.

There is a relatively small amount of SDRAM available for use by the 
AV7110, which has to be used (amongst other things) for

- firmware image
- video buffer
- teletext re-insertion
- on-screen display

Whilst the bottom of the VDR display is nicely coloured, the main 
section of the screen is only 2 bitplanes -> 4 colours, and this is 
because the SDRAM for the AV7110 is already maxed out...

Newer firmware images have increased the available RAM slightly by doing 
tricks like disabling teletext re-insertion and OSD at the same time - 
so you can have on or the other.  This allows the video buffer to get 
bigger, and many people have reported an increase in reliability as a 
result.
