It's probably not your linux drivers - it does the same in windows. I
have both the AverTV DVB and Nova-T and comparatively he Nova-T
reception is far superior. I'm in Central London, receiving from Crystal
Palace. I get perfect reception on everything except the BBC FOUR
multiplex, but at times the AverDVB card will only display BBC1 & 2
without breaking up.

I can't tell you why, but I can say that QAM64 channels work fine for me
on the Aver with 2.6.4. All of our channels in Australia are on QAM64.
