[linux-dvb] Help with J2 RGB

I would like to finally have a clear picture using RGB via the J2 of my DVB-S rev1.5 card.

I've spent approximately 40 hours in the last few days trying to achieve this but the result has been increasing frustration and the destruction of equipment (intentional but regrettable).

I'll try to give a summary of my progress from the start till now:

1. Bought budget DVB-T card no output device.
2. Bought DXR3/H+ card. No good, did not support switching TV to 16:9 mode.
3. Bought another DXR3/H+ card. This version supported this feature.
4. Output was unreliable and getting RGB out was very risky. Bought Matrox G450.
5. High hopes dashed. Linux support less than stellar and interlacing of signal via RGB cable FAR from perfect. Also needed too much CPU to be practical.
6. Ordered DVB-S rev1.5 card from Germany for a FORTUNE (I'm in Australia).
7. Used crappy shielded data cable to get average S-Video picture out of J2 to SCART socket (still better than composite).
8. Attempted to use RGB but discovered that the RGB signals were too strong. So went back to S-Video.
9. Ordered shitty (didn't find out till I got it) cable from Germany (usa-x). Cost me about 40 Euro including shipping and the picture is much worse than anything I had ever seen before. It's just a ribbon cable going from J2 to the SCART connector with one resistor (presumably for the voltage line but I haven't checked).

10. About 40 hours ago I started to attempt to make my own J2 to SCART socket. Destroyed a perfectly good (and unique) VGA cable based on tips on here. The entire cable is shielded (is this ground?) with the R, G and B wires independently shielded (is this R, G and B ground?).

At the J2 end I connected the ground to the shielding and each of the RGB grounds to the shielding also. At the SCART end I connected a 75 Ohm resistor between R, G and B and between their respective shielding (all connected to ground at J2). R, G and B as well as the composite sync signal and left and right audio are connected from J2 to the SCART socket.

The S-Video picture is a little bit worse than via the shitty data cable and the RGB signal is very ghosted. It's all quite horrific and the stress of soldering these stranded wires to the SCART connector for hours and indeed days at a time just to get a picture of decreasing quality over is putting me in a homicidal frame of mind.

PLEASE explain to me what I am doing wrong and how to avoid this ghosting. Preferably without needing to spend another 40 hours soldering. And if you know of any PRACTICAL advice on how to solder for a beginner I'd be interested too (and none of that "don't use large globs" crap either. It's either huge globs or strands sticking out in every direction).

Regards,
Michal
