[linux-dvb] AW: SuSE9.1 / NOVA-t USB problems

Hi Marc,

I seem to have the same problem here with a Technotrend Budget USB Box. I
posted the following about one week ago but nobody did reply:

==================================================
Hi all,

I have got a problem getting my new Technotrend USB Nova-T Box to work
(Debian Kernel 2.6.5). After startup in my eyes all necessary drivers got
loaded by hotplug.

Here is an output of lsmod:
Module Size Used by
dvb_ttusb_budget 26356 -
dvb_core 57312 -

After that I tried to get frontend modules loaded by using modprobe. I tried
all the tda1004x, Grundig and Alps modules. All of them got loaded but I did
not get any output in /var/log/messages, dmesg or syslog. The only
interesting thing I found e.g. in dmesg is the following output right after
startup:

-------------------------------------------------------
usb 2-3: new full speed USB device using address 2
usb 2-3: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
drivers/usb/core/message.c: USB device number 2 default language ID 0x409
usb 2-3: Product: TT-DVB-T USB
usb 2-3: Manufacturer: TechnoTrend AG
drivers/usb/core/usb.c: usb_hotplug
usb 2-3: registering 2-3:1.0 (config #1, interface 0)
drivers/usb/core/usb.c: usb_hotplug
usb 2-3: registering 2-3:1.1 (config #1, interface 1)
drivers/usb/core/usb.c: usb_hotplug
Technotrend/Hauppauge USB-Nova 2-3:1.0: usb_probe_interface
Technotrend/Hauppauge USB-Nova 2-3:1.0: usb_probe_interface - got id
ttusb_probe: TTUSB DVB connected
usb 2-3: usb_disable_device nuking non-ep0 URBs
usb 2-3: unregistering interface 2-3:1.0
-------------------------------------------------------

For me it looks like the USB Box was recognized but then disabled.

Frank.

Betreff: [linux-dvb] SuSE9.1 / NOVA-t USB problems

Dear all,

I'm struggling with my Hauppauge budget USB box.
I'm trying to use it with SuSE 9.1 (uname -r = 2.6.4-52-smp).
Having read that the 2.6 kernel has built-in dvb support, I tried it
straight out of the box. It didn't hotplug correctly (the light at
the front of the box lit up orange).
I rebooted to coldplug. This time the light went green. An "lsmod"
revealed that dvb_core and dbv_ttusb_budget loaded.

However, a quick test with tzap gave the following error:

ERROR: failed opening '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' no such device.

This kind of makes sense because the coldplugger clearly hasn't
loaded a front-end driver. I presume that the frontend drivers
aren't built ino the kernel?

So, I built the dvb driver that is given with the SuSE9.1 dist.
Then used the insmod.sh script, safe in the knowledge that it
won't load the same module twice. None of the front-end drivers
that loaded seemed to work - ie they were reported as not in use.
Does the front-end need to be pre-loaded before dvb_core? Is the
depmod not working this out correctly?

I then went back to hotplugging, so that I have some control
over the order in which modules are loaded. This didn't fix the
problem really - in fact it seems to make things slightly worse.
So, I'm a bit stuck. Should I try to construct the dependencies
manually so that coldplugging will load a front-end driver? If
so, how do I do that?

Alternatively, maybe the front-end driver is not the cause of
the above error message from tzap? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

TIA
Marc
