What version of the driver are you using? If you're using a Hauppauge/TT card, 
it should say:

"stv0299: setup for tuner SU1278 (TSA5059 synth) on TechnoTrend hardware"
during the initialisation sequence sometime.

Could it be a DISEQC setup problem? Maybe DISEQC isn't quite configured right 
in linux...
