Thanks to Holgers pointer to datasheet one can suppose what's inside.
The inscription of the tin box says:
TBM - Product
U   - Universal
24  - chassis size
1   - 1 input
1   - bandtype 1 BAND
2   - mech-type: horizontal
I   - I2C
M   - Mitel/Zarlink
B   - Demod IC: ST (what does this mean)

It seems it is just cosmetic, as the windows driver is the same.

The IR-receiver is for a serial port, maybe it would work with lirc
out-of-the-box.
