Patrick,

by all means, rip the metal box open if you feel like doing so.
As long as the box is functioning when it comes back! ;-)

I will be very careful. :)

Thanks to Holgers pointer to datasheet one can suppose what's inside.
The inscription of the tin box says:
TBM - Product
U - Universal
24 - chassis size
1 - 1 input
1 - bandtype 1 BAND
2 - mech-type: horizontal
I - I2C
M - Mitel/Zarlink
B - Demod IC: ST (what does this mean)

Sounds to me like the common STV0299B/SL1935 or the older STV0299/SL1925 combination -- but that's pure guessing. Both should work with the existing stv0299 driver, maybe some tweaks are necessairy due to different crystal frequencies, different filters or different wirings. Have you found out how the LNB supply is connected? There are basically 2 obvious options: either the STV0299 OP0/OP1 pins or pins of the FlexCop. Maybe there even exists some code you can reuse.
