[linux-dvb] Re: Scanning satellite for programs?

The symbol rate *is* the baud rate. 1 baud = 1 symbol change per second.

> Does a list of all the valid symrates exist?

There is no such thing. The symbol rate is derived from the channel
bandwidth by the Nyquist roll-off factor. Satellite operators can freely
choose their channel bandwidth. ASTRA uses only fixed channel bandwidths,
while Eutelsat uses wideband transponders which it splits into several
subbands of various bandwidths = symbol rates.

The Zarlink MT312 DVB-S demodulator features an autoscan mode for both
symbol rate and transponder frequency. Someone has written a scanning tool
which utilizes this feature. Search the archive of this mailing list for
"blindscan". Note, however, that this will only do you any good if you have
a DVB-S card with this demodulator chip on it. Other demodulators like e.g.
the popular STV0299B are simply not capable of symbol rate autodetection.
