[linux-dvb] Re: Leadtek LR6650 (Conexant) scan / lock problems

Update: I finally got around to trying black gold on Windows XP, and it works just fine on all channels. So there is nothing intrinsic wrong with the card.

I think this app installs its own driver. I'll enquire with them about trying to fix the linux driver. You never know, they might just help us.

I think there is something a bit suspect either in the driver or lower down (microcode?) in this card, as I have also see this problem on my strongest mux, thankfully mainly it is Chan 5 + shopping tat. This mux is the strongest signal I have judging by my other DVB box (dec2000t).

This also happens in windows using the latest Stratford driver (107) and Showshifter. One ray of hope is that the Black Gold TV application managed to lock onto the problem Mux and scan it for channels, but I've not been able to get a picture from this application yet, perhaps because I've only used win 2k for this.

I intend to do a bit more investigation once I've got some time to play with XP. I suspect that the Black Gold (Blackbird reference version) may be using custom drivers which diverge from the other drivers that are kicking about on the net.

However, I'm not sure about the assertion that the signal number is reversed. I think it may just be scaled differently from other cards. On mine, the C5 mux is signal ~0x0055, while BBC1 is ~0x002d and is received perfectly. Other weaker muxes are received OK as well.

Let's say that more investigation is required.

I'm still having locking problems on certain channels with my LR6650
(Conexant Reference) card, and the Crystal Palace transmitter. The main
BBC multiplex is intermittent, and I get nothing on the ITV/Channel 4 one.

I've tried removing other PCI cards to reduce interference, shifting the
card to another slot, different aerials, a booster... does anyone else
have any suggestions of things to try to get a lock?

Could it be the drivers? Would an upgrade to 2.6.10 and the corresponding
patch be likely to make a difference?

Or could it really be that my signal is too strong? Someone noted that
the signal strength on this card is reversed - e.g. 0x0044 is a strong
signal.

Thanks!

Well I upgraded to kernel 2.6.10-rc1, got the bytesex patches and the
LR6650 is working extremely well on all channels, I reccomend this

card

as it's the easiest of the three to get up (no firmware!) and

reception

is as good as the nova-t if not better. (and they're going for 30 uk
pounds on e-bay at the minute)

Unfortunately there are problems with the other cards!
The nova-t now can only be opened once, a second attempt to open the

card

fails with a firmware warning, I can work around this by telling myth

to

keep the card open, so it's not too much of a problem.

This explains the recent tuning problems I've had with my 909 and
2.9.10-rc1 with the All-* patch from bytesex.

if you run tzap BBC 1 the first time, you get a lock, and the next time
you run tzap, it gives no lock, right?

I guess I would, I can't try just now cos myth is keeping all the cards
open,
sorry

Anyway, symlinking /lib/firmware to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware fixes my 761
problem and might have fixed the nova-t, I'll check in a second.
And the good news is the 761 reception issue seems MUCH improved with this
latest version, it's now watchable with the odd glitch, rather than
completely unwatchable on qam_64.
FYI: I used to use the plain kernel 2.6.8.1 drivers without bytesex (silly
me!)
