[linuxtv-softmpeg] Re: Current project status

Hi,

I reinstalled VDR onto a clean disk yesterday, with the latest versions (a couple of days old) of DirectFB etc.

I can report the following:

- VDR OSD works with libsoftmpeg, with alpha blending on my CLE266 machine.
- VDR plays and records. I left it running overnight but came back to very jerky playback of live TV. Not sure what's wrong yet.

I have implemented some rough code to talk to the CLE266 hardware decoder. It vaguely works, but the picture 'jerks' about every 1/2 second. I think this might be a problem with I frames, but haven't had time to debug yet (but hopefully will be able to now it appears my random seg fault crashes have gone away due to reinstall).

This code needs debugged and tidied up. It has been suggested that VDR uses about 10% CPU playing back video using this code.

The code is based around Andreas' decoder - which is very similar to the code checked into the unichrome CVS. It shouldn't be hard to modify it to work with the code in there - but Xv isn't a high priority for me at the moment.

I'd like to add fast forward/rewind/pause capabilities into the VDR softmpeg plugin next. Should the functions available in softmpeg to do this work at the moment (e.g. softmpeg_decoder_set_mode etc)?

I'll also modify the patches I have to work against the latest DirectFB CVS. Sorry for the inconvenience to people who have found that they were out of date!

I also have a couple of patches to check buffer sizes. I'll submit these, now that things seem to be working again.

Sorry there's not been much progress on my part - had some other things to do, and this is spare time only I'm afraid!

Regards,

Colin Paton
