[vdr] Re: again: LNB frozen...

gfiala@s.netic.de(Guido Fiala) 04.01.02 19:49

Once upon a time Guido Fiala shaped the electrons to say...

>Now it's again -13°C and the picture and sound freezes after 30sec on
>all vertical channels (switching to a horizontal and back fixes this
>temporarily).

Always and exact 30sec?

>There is no message in syslog when it freezes (aka not sync'ed or so)

Which logging level are you using?

"$VDRPRG -l 3 -w 60"

>That switching is done by the voltage i guess?

Most common.

ca. 18V is "Horz"
ca. 14V is "Vert"

>Can this be fixed by software, e.g. turning the voltage a bit up/down?

AFAIK: No. Neither.

Try to move the transponder frequencies.

>Or should i buy a new LNB?

There once were LNBs with a little "pin" "hook" that is turned by
a motor/magnet hor or vert. So maybe the mechanic is frozen?

But then you would receive the wrong programs
Try to find program on the same frequency and same PID
but different polarization (don't know if there are those)
and try if you can switch between those.
If not, it's a frozen polarizator.
If you can, then it is different sensivity and big snowy
clouds in the direction of the satellite.

If not clouds:

Maybe new, modern LNB helps or an LNB heating device?

Maybe:
Plastic bag/box to isolate it a bit from the ambient.

Maybe:
ELV has an 20W 1V waterproof heating wire)

Maybe it helps not to turn off LNB voltage when divice is not
in Use or to toggle v/h several times?

Maybe a (plexi) glass dome?

Or just to clean the LNB from snow?

Maybe only specifc LNBs have this problem?
Can you name it?
