It _is_ the world standard, believe me. It's the so called SI-system. It defines length (meter), weights (gramm) and time (seconds) units. Ask your physics professor...

Maybe most of all people in the world are mesuring their screen sizes with inches. But many european and also captain Picard don't and I don't want to be an anachronism ;-))
