It's most probably the control code on your dvd that tries to detect
wether 
your player is region code free or not.
I'll need a bit more information to come up with a solution. Please
activate 
the "#define VMDEBUG" in ogle-dvd.h, make clean, make, run vdr with
stderr 
and stdout redirected to a file "./vdr > logfile 2>&1" and send me the 
result.
