VDR + Add-Ons will make an exellent set-top-box with lots of 
functionality stuffed in one unit.
My list of functions, in order of importance to me
- VDR - get dvb (sat and terra) and record it
- DVD - play dvds
- CD  - play CDs
- MP3 - play files and lists of

Thats it, no ripping, no conversions, no recording to cd or divx,
all that should be in the realm of mplayer et al.

Of course I could go to the shop and buy top-of-the-line Digi-Box with
internal harddisk and a Good DVD-player which plays all, but where is
the fun  :)
