yes indeed! this was the destination that I've tried. I even tried 
/dev/ost/demux .

I even reloaded the drivers, even restarted the comp.

I don't have mplayer compiled on this machine since the proc is a 300A 
celeron not fast enough for a divx to vdr transcoding.
