AFAIK the SID is not necessarily unique between transponders, therefore it is
necessary to use the frequency. Actually, according to other postings,
the NID and TID would be even better, but that data is currently not yet
used by VDR. It may be used later, and the unique channel ID is implemented
in a way that will allow this to be extended easily.

However, if somebody can actually provide reliable information that the SIDs
are in fact unique within a single satellite position, cable or terrestrial
feed, I'd be more than happy to reduce the ID to just "source" and SID.
