[vdr] What do you actually need for watching?

A friend of mine is momentarily thinking about joining the VDR-Force and asked me what he actually absolutely needs for using VDR.

Computer with linux and a big harddisk - ok :-)

But what DVB-Cards?

Is a "small" (ie not fully featured) DVB-card sufficient if he only wants to watch with something like tuxview, or do you absolutely need a fully featured card?

Does a small one suffice as secondary just for recording?

THX for you answers (even if it's something like RTFM at blah.fasel.de :-), but I couldn't find a short statement that explains this on the web )
