[vdr] OT: How to convert vdr recordings to mpeg 1 in place

Hi,

i try to convert some of my vdr recordings to mpeg1 for space saving
reasons. I tried to use tosvcd, but i dont think it is the optimal tool,
since its aimed at creating (s)vcd images - that is exactly not what i
want but rather have the 00x.vdr files converted in place to mpeg1.

I thought of using mjepegtools but got somewhat lost in the "docs".

I would be grateful for any hints.
