[vdr] Re: VDR feature request

Hello community,
what about a feature to integrate a second "primary directory" into vdr
which is handled like video0 if you have more than one video partition.
E.g. no symlinks pointing there but original files like the index.vdr
I was the one who originally convinced Klaus to implement the
/videoN symlink mechanism and ironically I no longer use it because
I believe that parts of a recording should not be distributed
over more than one disk.
With the implementation of subdirectories, IMHO the /videoN symlink
mechanism has become almost obsolete.
Using subdirectories, I have configured the following solution,
which I believe to be much better:
* I use only one /video directory, which contains top-level entries,
which in my case are the genres Action Comedy Fantasy Horror Kids
Misc Music SciFi Science Thriller.
* Some of the genres are directories on /video itself, others are
symbolic links pointing to other disks. Of course, here it does
not matter if /video/Kids points to a remote disk such as
/nfsserver/disk1, to a local disk such as /video2 or to any
subdirectory in one of these, so the solution is very flexible.
* Of course, my solution does not do automatic load leveling, so
I had to rearrange the distribution of genres over disks a few
times in the past, but it has been mostly stable for a long time
now.
The only thing that I do not know is: In a manually-configured
linked setup such as mine, which recordings whill vdr erase when
it runs out of space?
For example, in my configuration, /video/Kids is linked to
/video3/Kids. When vdr runs out of space when recording
/video/Kids/Die_Sendung_mit_der_Maus, will vdr know that
it only makes sense to delete old recordings on /video3?
Carsten.
