I guess if I change that I'll start getting complaints about missed
recordings, saying "why didn't VDR reload the driver?".

You can easily change that behaviour by modifying the code in receiver.c,
cRecorder::Action() (assuming you use version 1.1.33). Just comment out
the 'else f (...)' part.

I'll make this a config switch after 1.2.0.
