It might also be that his mplayer was compiled for the old DVB driver.
Or he has multiple DVB cards in his box and the first one isn't a
full-featured one.
Or he has not a single full-featured card in his system.

Martin, please be more specific. And a good idea would be to also post
the command line that is used to play the video (i.e. something like
'mplayer -vo mpegpes ... video.avi').
