AFAIK mpeg1 + mpeg2

mpeg2, if possible native, divx converted to mpeg2

Yep. faking the directory structuren and using genindex (search the
mailinglist or vdrportal.de or is it on Klaus FTP? )

rip the mpeg2 from dvd and svcd and the mpeg1 from vcd , rename them to
00x.vdr and try genindex, I think it don't has to be remuxed. divx => mpeg2
depends on your setup. mpeg2enc from latest mjpegtools is really nice what
belongs to quality. Remember to resize the video to valid dvb resolutions
while you convert them.

If I'm wrong at some points please correct me, i haven't tested it as i do it
the other way round (having all on DVD)
