Very nice! I'd like to do a X-Windows OSD which could run outside of a 
viewer application (like xawtv, tvtime, kvdr ...).
This would give us the possibility to do a  mplayer plugin without 
"-mpgpes", for example.
What do you think?

My current plan was to patch the NewOsd() Method in dvbdevice.c.
A plugin without a patch is surely better :-)
So a OSD implementation is going to become another plugin type like 
"player" or "device"?
Can one add multiple OSD's? (e.g.: additional mini LCD Display)
