If you plan to use VDR full-screen on a dedicated box, give a try to the 
DirectFB output method : get DirectFB from CVS (or maybe the latest 
0.9.20 release, with development headers), DFB++ (from CVS), and go with 
that.
Or else, give a try to the xine-plugin...
