First off, did I miss something? support for 8PSK seems to be missing
(no MOD_8PSK in fe_modulation_t)

What is the reason given for this? Not that I have much of an
opinion, but I was just curious why there need to be two sets of
ioctls with the same functionality? If you are going to do it that
way, why do you need to maintain backwards compatibility at all?
You could define dvb_frontend_parameters without the partition for
extended data, since apps will either use the old or the new api (then
just call the new ioctls _FE_*_FRONTEND_NEW and be done with it.
