it's just that during conversion of the dmxdev code (which resets
pointers) to use the generic ringbuffer I had to decide whether to keep
this behaviour or not. I forgot to think about locking, so resetting
seemed to have all the advantages. ;-)

But it's not a problem at all not to reset the pointers.

I did not do any measurements.
