I have perhaps got a little further, see my additions to dvb source ("hg
diff") below, and corresponding "/var/log/messages" after "make install" and
reboot...  maybe someone can help me from here?

A question I have is: do the "inputs" in the code below correspond to
physical inputs on the back of the card? The names suggest this, but maybe
I'm wrong...

I'm not sure about the tuner type either - it was just a guess, based on the
fact that the tuner must be able to decode analogue and digital signals,
since the card supports both.
