why do i even bother?

there doesn't have to be a good technical reason

it is the path of least resistance and will lead to more supported 
hardware in linux

now for the love of all that is holy (not swearing or mocking any 
religion here - although sorely tempted) would you all stop squabbling 
like children and move on
