Public information on the STB0899 is limited. Although some documentation can be found (for example, a [http://comtech.myweb.hinet.net/pdf/dvbs2-6899.pdf Comtech Technology tuner module product brief] outlines some basic register and timing info), what is available is not very useful. In fact, as has been related by the driver's author, the chip is rather complex and even with possession of its datasheet, the chip's vendor had to be consulted on numerous occasions about un-published/documented features and inaccuracies within the specifications. And although STMicro has been very accommodating, the driver development was, and continues to be, done under a [[NDA]]. Further, this situation is quite unlikely to change.

A DVB-S2 PCI card from TechnoTrend.

There are experimental drivers available for the device (see http://jusst.de/manu/stb0899-v4l-dvb.tar.bz2) , however, there are several areas that need improvement. There may also be some more recent patches available, but you will have to search the m/l archives to determine that for sure.

This card is apparently also available/rebranded as the TechniSat SkyStar HD.

Components Used

  • STMicro STB6100 (tuner)
  • STMicro STB0899 (demodulator)
  • NXP/Philips SAA7146 (PCI bridge)
