Hm, if the one timer stops and the next timer starts in the same
second, wouldn't be there a 10sec gap in the recording?

Almost nothing :-)  I though:
If the software waits for the EPG, and (if) the EPG 
switches (advances) with the beginning of the actual transmission 
("if", i do not know) it could be possible to write an entry in the
index: "Probally start here" or so.
