DVB always uses MPEG2 transport streams. In a cable network it is common
to keep the channel mapping of the analog system, e.g. 6 MHz per
channel. One channel carries one MPEG2 TS (usually with QAM64 or
QAM256 modulation), which can contain 3..5 programs.

Details about DVB-C/S can be found at http://www.dvb.org/ (list of the relevant
standards) and http://www.etsi.org/ (download of standard documents
by document number).
