That's good to hear, hope it does not break other frontends.
Does it also turn off LNB power on your card (and restore properly)?

I wonder if it would be acceptable to do a bttv approach to the problem, and 
handle all budget models with a 'card=cardid[[,cardid]...]' module parameter?

Yea, sure I will!

Maybe Ralph has some insight into wether it breaks the original KNC1 card?
