cant speak for 2.6.6 but 2.6.3 worked for me with no patching. bttv
doesnt recognise the card but its nothing to worry about. I seem to
remember that there is another module you have to load before dvb_bt8xx
(something like bt878?) I cant say for sure as I cant reach my box atm
but you can scrape the information from the dvb-kernel documentation.
The other thing to be aware of is that newer avermedia dvb-t cards
apparently have a slightly different chipset which (I think) requires a
different frontend module, search the list for recent posts about this.

Let me know if you are still having problems and I'll dig out my own
config. I have this card working quite well with mythtv.
