New idea on same base with pc bios setting:

Use a IR controlled switch. Normally the switch stays in on position.
When VDR is powered down, you have to turn off and on the switch. You
can program this into the remote control.

May be this is the solution for my server which normally runs 7x24
hours. Together with the bios timer it should work automagically. I will
probably try this with a 4-channel infrared controller from
www.conrad.de .
