The purpose of SVDRP is to control things like timers, channels etc.
through a simple textual interface, and feedback is given through
the error codes and messages. The HITK command (which you are presumably
mainly referring to) was only implemented for tools like kvdr, which
make the original OSD visible to the user.

If you want to control VDR with OSD from a text console, you could compile
it with DEBUG_OSD=1.
