Yes, works perfect. I made simple scripts, using the commandline program 
dvcont.
I can start play, record (using DVin), rewind, forward, and ask for the 
current time stamp.
I use the very cheap Sony TRV230 (bought just for sports feedback and 
backup)

At the moment I have no acces to this computer, I`m on my way to a one 
week buisness trip to Kopenhagen.
But I can support you aftertwards (wanted to contact you anyway)
