The characters are about 5 mm high, so you can read it from 3m. You can
also download the whole datasheet in advance, there are also some
drawings with the exact dimensions of the display. And yes it is bright
enough, almost too bright. It also has a feature to adjust the
brightness by software commands (i think it has two or three different
brightness levels) but these are not supported by the standard driver,
yet and i didn't have the time and knowledge to look into it.
