i asume you thinking about using your vga-card to have video with vdr?

then you will need a appl. that is placed above vdr, like kvdr or xawtv under X
or if you have a TFT with vga and s-video/fbas in, then you can swith between computer and tv picture (or maybe use the pip funktion)
