Yes, very easy. You need a DB9, a 2.5mm Klinkenbuchse, a Diode, a Resistor, a Capacitor and a Z-Diode. The circuit is mainly like the LIRC seriell receiver one only that the connections to the IR-Receiver a little bit longer. :-)
And yes, it works really good for me.
Be carefull with the connections to the ir-receiver because of the polarity.
