Hm, I forgot to say that one has to use the CVS NEWSTRUCT driver
after 01oct2002. Additionally, I had to disable 
#define DVB_DRIVER_VERSION 2002090101 //XXX+
in dvbdevice.c or I get artefacts and 'buffer empty' messages.

I'd like to look deeper into this. Does anybody know how one can measure 
CPU consumption between two points in the kernel?
