I'm not to thrilled by the idea of somebody doing that. mplayer does 
have it's uses, but it also has it's problems (sometimes more problems 
that uses). For me, a/v sync is almost constantly screwed when using 
mplayer on a DXR3 or a DVB card.
I would vote for a xine-out plugin.
