Hi,

I have a perfect picture from my system on all channels, but as soon as I start recording the picture breaks up (as if the satellite signal was suddenly too weak). The recording itself is also affected.

I am using vdr-1.2.1 and dvb driver of 22-06-2003, but I get the same problem with vdr-1.0.4 and the 0.9.4 driver.

My harware is an VIA EPIA 5000 (533MHz Eden ESP Processor) and a v1.3 Hauppauge DVB-s card.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

Check with hdparm if UDMA is enabled. I one of the receiver-threads in
VDR does not take data fast enough VDR has to drop packets. So a slow
HDD could cause distortions.

You were right.

The drive was udma5 enabled but not the interface. My disk performance has jumped from 2MB/s to 36MB/s!
vdr now records perfectly without picture break up.

Thanks for the quick help.

P.S. Will vdr also benefit from using the interupt masking option?
