[vdr] Re: What CAM for SECA2 (Canal Satellite) ?
Hi Laurent,
I am using an ASTON CAM (v1.05) with an old rev 1.3 Hauppauge card.
I had troubles trying to use VDR v1.2 with latest dvb driver (icam).
It only worked once (I haven't made many tests as I had to reboot very
often during testing) using some changes made by Antonino Sergi (see
and old post in October).
That's why I am still using vdr 1.04 with a modified driver using
original TT firmware.
It is ok for me as I am just using this setup to record programs on my
linux server and I am using another PC to replay recordings on TV.
But it won't replace a mediaguard decoder or a pilotime, as OSD is
quite bad (half screen) and slow.
Maybe Antonino Sergi succeeded in patching VDR to fully support ASTON
CAM and SECA2 ; I remember there was a problem with AudioTrack toggle.
Regards,
Patrick.

Hi all,
I'm about to build my own vdr box in order to replace (for better :-)
the official MediaGuard decoder for Canal Satellite here in France. I'm
in the process of selecting the right components before moving forward.
Picking the right CAM seems to be tricky. I had a careful look at the
cam support as described at
ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/vdr/Developer/cams.txt.
Apparently, there's no choice (at least for me !). It will be a Magic
Module since I want to decrypt SECA2-encrypted channels.
Could you please confirm ? Maybe cams.txt is not completely up to date.
For instance, it does not confirm Magic Module is ok for vdr versions
1.2.x. I would be glad to get feedbacks from subscribers to Canal
Satellite or Canal Digital.
2 more questions and I'm done :
- I will go for a PCI CI attached to my Nova card. Is there any
specific hardware version number I should be careful at ?
- I understand PentaCrypt is the Magic Module firmware to use with VDR.
But which version since 1.09 is outdated by 1.10 and 1.11 ?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Cheers.
Laurent
