[linux-dvb] Re: Patch for cards with the Philips CD1516 tuner box (spXXXX?)

Hi,

This is for everyone's information, and to back up Marko Kenttälä's experience
as well (don't remember if he posted it to this list).

Siemens DVB-C, when using the non-NEWSTRUCT drivers (latest
CVS-used-to-be-HEAD):

root@filter dvbtune2 # ./dvbtune -f 162000000 -s 6900 -c 0
tuning DVB-C to 162000000, srate=6900000
Getting frontend event
Received completion event
Event:  Frequency: 162000000
        SymbolRate: 6900000
        FEC_inner:  0
Bit error rate: 3964
Signal strength: 1190764544
SNR: 5
FE_STATUS: FE_HAS_POWER FE_HAS_SIGNAL FE_HAS_LOCK FE_HAS_CARRIER FE_HAS_SYNC

Using -i yields all the right channels (Nelonen mux for you HTV people :-)

Interesting is also:
<description tag="0x48" type="129" provider_name="HTV"
service_name="Bootloader Xbox" />

:-)

When then trying to tune to QAM128, using the patched VES1820.c (NEWSTRUCT is
up-to-date, old CVS is not), it refuses, but interesting part is when I
specify "-m":

root@filter dvbtune2 # ./dvbtune -f 283000000 -s 5900 -c 0 -qam 128 -m
FE READ UNCORRECTED BLOCKS: : Function not implemented
Signal=358958464, Verror=358958464, SNR=1222593472dB, BlockErrors=0, (P|S|C|)
FE READ UNCORRECTED BLOCKS: : Function not implemented
Signal=358259780, Verror=358259780, SNR=1222593472dB, BlockErrors=0, (P|)
FE READ UNCORRECTED BLOCKS: : Function not implemented
Signal=1190764544, Verror=3966, SNR=5dB, BlockErrors=0, (P|)

(i.e. signal/SNR seem more reasonable). However it will do the same for every
bogus frequency I try.

So, a little closer than before, but not quite there yet :-)

Cheers,
Dennis
