Thats quiet interesting.. I have a BT848 card (actually a hauppauge
WintvPVR but previously a wintv theatre and before that, a wintv fm) and
have always noticed vertical striations in the analog picture when using
the UHF receiver. The problem was, I have replaced everything surrounding
the bt848 card.. case psu mobo ram disks.. infact even the monitor.. but
this noise doesn't disappear.. just to be doubly sure, I ever moved house
recently and these lines remain! ;)

Its not a fault of the software since "moving" the aerial cable effects
the strength of this noise.. and also I dont see them when using the
SVideo or composite inputs..
Anyway, putting a very sensative receiver near an electrically loud
computer is never a wise move ;) a usb receiver might help with that..

however, in my case, returning the dvb card from my workstation to this
new computer, in which less than 5 minutes prior it had not worked in a
very big way, resulted in it working (well, the stream played and could be
watched for more than 1 second without errors)..

This is almost disappointing in some ways. If when the returning the dvb
card to this new box it still didn't work, that would atleast have been
something to work at considering the same OS install and the same card
worked in another computer it could only be the drivers/kernel/mobo..

I'm waiting for a longer aerial cable, or to have a new aerial installed
before I do much more work (hopefully this weekend) so I'm going to have
to wait to really start playing with this thing.. I'm also contemplating
trying the card under windows (shudder) on the same box.. just to see how
often errors occur. It would be interesting to see if the windows drivers
are any better at reducing the error count..

Cheers
