[linux-dvb] Re: kworld/v-stream/xpert dtv dvb-t pci

Hi Soyeb,

I *believe* the KWorld card uses the same Samsung and MT352 front end
as used on the new Avermedia A771 DVB-T PCI card.

There is another gentleman on here (Locke) who is attempting to get
the MT352 front end working under Linux.

Cheers,

Craig

Subject: [linux-dvb] kworld/v-stream/xpert dtv dvb-t pci

hello all,

I'm new here so forgive my ignorances...

I've purchased a kworld/v-stream/xpert dtv dvb-t pci
card and I'd like to get the DVB side working under
Linux.

http://www.kworld.com.tw/asp/pindex.asp?id=4&pid=14

The following email contains details of the card, then
details of what I've done to get the analogue side
working (succeded), and what I've tried to get the DTV
side to work (failed).

The card is a combined analogue and DTV device
consisting of a shielded tuner block with an aerial in
and a uhf out (I have no idea what's inside cos it's
sealed), a big chip which is a Conexant cx23883 (this
is different from the picture on the website), and
miscellaneous other small parts. The connectors at
the back are UHF in, UHF out, composite in, svhs in,
remote. An Australian website selling this product
claimed that the DTV side is Siemens but I can't find
the link so I can't site any evidence.

NOTE: the tuner is solely for DTV, there is no
analogue tuner. I used an external composite video
source to test out the analogue side.

I've tried the card under WinXP and the DTV side works
fine.

I'm using Suse 9.1 standard install with their compile
of the DTV drivers and kernel 2.6.4.

lspci output gives me the following relevant bits:

0000:00:0a.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant:
Unknown device 8800 (rev 05)
0000:00:0a.2 Multimedia controller: Conexant: Unknown
device 8802 (rev 05)

Loading up the cx88xx drivers using the following:

linux:~ # more bin/setupTV
modprobe i2c_algo_bit
modprobe v4l2_common
modprobe v4l1_compat
modprobe tuner
modprobe video_buf
modprobe btcx_risc
modprobe cx88xx
modprobe cx8800
modprobe tda9887

allows me to watch video fed in through the composite
connector using tvtime set to use input composite 2.
So analogue video works fine. I'm sure not all of the
above modules are required but I haven't got around to
working out which are and which aren't.

For the DTV side I tried modprobing each of the DTV
modules shipped with Suse 9.1 which are listed below:

linux:~ # find

/lib/modules/2.6.4-54.5-smp/kernel/drivers/media/dvb/dvb-core/dvb-core.ko

some produced output to /var/log/messages (which I
haven't noted but could probably recreate if you
need), but most modules didn't output anything.

Any attempts to tune a channel result in:

linux:~> szap -c
/usr/share/doc/packages/dvb/channels.conf-dvbt-crystal-palace
bbci
reading channels from file
'/usr/share/doc/packages/dvb/channels.conf-dvbt-crystal-palace'
zapping to 4 'BBCi':
sat 0, frequency = 505833333 MHz V, symbolrate 0, vpid
= 0x0000, apid = 0x0000
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and
'/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
opening frontend failed: No such device or address

None of this amazes me as I didn't expect this card to
work straight off.

I'm willing to offer my time into getting this card
working under Linux, so if anyone wants to work with
me then I'll be most willing to help.

Regards,

Soyeb
