I always get an i2c error during firmware upload which you might be
seeing, but the upload is a success:

Sep 26 15:51:21 tv kernel: i2c_adapter i2c-0: sendbytes: error - bailout.
Sep 26 15:51:29 tv kernel: sp887x_initial_setup: firmware upload...  done.

I don't know what would cause a segfault.
