That is not true. The original Nokia API design docs say something
like (I paraphrase from memory): "Tuning is asynchronous, you kick it
off with FE_SET_FRONTEND and then wait for completion with FE_GET_EVENT.
I case something unexpected happens (like if someone pulls out the
antenna cable), you'll get an event, too."

IMHO this is simple and efficient. Not a left-over, but exactly
what I want.
